Is Wagyu Beef Healthy?

Wagyu beef isn’t just good. It’s good for you. First, what is Wagyu beef. For those who have heard many foodies talk about how delicious this beef is but wasn’t actually sure why – check out this post about what Wagyu beef is. We use Wagyu beef in our Katana Blend Burgers. Now, onto why Wagyu beef is healthy for you.

No Additives

Here at Schweid & Sons, our cut made from Wagyu beef is all-natural. That means this cut of beef comes from cattle raised with no added hormones, steroids, or antibiotics. When you take your first, juicy bite, the only things you’ll be consuming are the ones nature originally intended.

Low Cholesterol

Not only does The Katana Blend contain no additives, but it’s also lower in cholesterol than other cuts of beef. If you’re paying attention to your cholesterol levels, this is the right cut for you; and if you’re not paying attention to your cholesterol intake, you probably should be. katana blend

Wagyu beef has the lowest cholesterol levels of all meats, even lower than fish or chicken, and it contains oleic acid which is considered good for your heart. It’s also believed to have anti-carcinogenic properties. (Times Live)

Healthy Fats

On the surface, Wagyu beef certainly doesn’t sound as if it would be healthy: it contains a much higher concentration of fats than many other cuts of red meat. The key, however, is in what type of fats are found in Wagyu beef. When compared with other red meats, Wagyu Beef contains much higher concentrations of monounsaturated fats.

According to the American Heart Association, these are considered “healthy fats.” Though those words sound as if they don’t belong together, the evidence demonstrates that this is an apt descriptor:

Monounsaturated fats can help reduce bad cholesterol levels in your blood which can lower your risk of heart disease and stroke. They also provide nutrients to help develop and maintain your body’s cells. Oils rich in monounsaturated fats also contribute vitamin E to the diet, an antioxidant vitamin most Americans need more of.

In other words, this means that although monounsaturated fats contain the same amount of calories as other fats do (9 calories per gram), eating them can have an overall positive effect on your health instead of a negative one.

That means even if you’re dieting, you can eat Wagyu beef, and The Katana Blend isn’t necessarily off the table!

Oleic Acid

Oleic Acid is a substance that is both produced by the human body and also is found in various foods, including olive oil and Wagyu beef.

When consumed in the recommended amounts, Oleic Acid has been linked to the following health benefits:

  • Preventing heart disease
  • Lowering cholesterol
  • Reducing risks of stroke
  • Lowering risks of ulcerative colitis
  • Lessening risks of cancer and other conditions
  • Reducing levels of inflammation

When compared to other breeds, Wagyu beef contains much higher concentrations of Oleic Acid, with up to 16 grams of oleic acid per 100 grams of ground beef. That means that while you’re eating your burger made from The Katana Blend, you could be giving your body exactly what it needs to help care for itself.
